Tyshawn Jones Says Skateboarding Is Not Defined by Color or Race But About Having Fun

Tyshawn Jones is doing gnarly moves in skateboarding and fashion, recently becoming Louis Vuitton’s latest "Friend of the House."

Even though he’s hit a level of success that a lot of people dream about, his take on skateboarding is pretty laid-back: it’s all about fun, not about race or where you’re from.

In a recent chat on The Breakfast Club with DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha God, and Jess Hilarious, he talked about growing up in Brooklyn and how skateboarding opened up a whole new world for him.

In elementary school, he blended right in, rocking Jordans and casual streetwear. But once school was out, he’d change into his skate clothes, grab his board, and take the subway to downtown spots.

When he got there, all the usual differences faded away. No matter if someone was Black, White, Asian, or Hispanic, everyone just skated together, shared tricks, and enjoyed the moment.

For Jones, that’s the beauty of skateboarding. It’s all about connecting over something you love, without worrying about where you come from.

His success in both skating and business hasn’t changed that mindset. Whether he’s teaming up with Louis Vuitton, running his own brand, or filming something new, he’s all about enjoying the ride, learning from others, and making the most of every session.

In the end, it comes down to just having fun on a skateboard, like it’s always been.
