A California man accused of stealing expensive tools from a work van had a rough escape after falling off his skateboard and crashing into two parked vehicles.
The incident was caught on surveillance footage, which later helped police make an arrest.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. on September 24 in Vacaville, Solano County. According to authorities, 35 year old Marc Marino allegedly stole about $1,400 worth of tools from a plumbing van before attempting to leave the scene on his skateboard.
Video footage shows Marino carrying the stolen items while trying to skate away. His getaway did not go as planned, as he collided with two parked vehicles before tumbling onto the ground. The fall left behind a rather unfortunate record of the alleged theft.
Earlier that night, a Vacaville resident reported seeing suspicious individuals riding scooters in her neighborhood. She reportedly tried to confront them, but they fled as a car sped away. The resident then contacted police.
An officer checking the area discovered a large pipe wrench lying in the road, according to the Vacaville Police Department. Shortly afterward, a community service officer responded to a separate report about tools stolen from a nearby work vehicle.
During the preliminary investigation, officers learned that Marino was on probation and subject to search conditions. Police subsequently went to his residence to conduct a probation compliance search.
Authorities recovered several items believed to have been stolen, including a Milwaukee portable band saw and a Milwaukee Sawzall, along with other property.
Marino was later booked into the Solano County Jail on multiple felony charges related to theft, conspiracy, and violation of probation.
