Skateboarding legend Steve Caballero just dropped news that he is stepping away from the punk band he helped put together, Urathane.
He started the band back in 2019 with his boys Tim, Dylan, and Chad, and for years it was more than music. It was a way to travel, create, and show off his personal art while connecting with fans.
On social media, Caballero broke it down real simple.
He compared it to skating. "When your wheel gets a flat spot it slows the roll. That is how I felt in the band stuck in a place where personal and creative differences made me the flat spot. So I made the call to step back letting my crew keep moving without holding them up," he wrote.
He kept it real about the good times. "I wish them well and appreciated all the good times we shared creating new music and sounds, traveling the world and bringing joy to those who came to our shows wearing our tees and supporting our rockstar dreams," Caballero said. He also shared that bringing his personal artwork on tour and connecting with fans was something he truly appreciated.
Even with the split, Caballero kept love for the band alive. He hopes the next album blows past the last one, and he hinted at cooking up a new project down the line that matches his style and ideas.
Fans have been showing respect, understanding that sometimes friendships and creative work do not line up the way you want. For Caballero, it is the end of a chapter but not the end of his story. He is grateful for the memories, the art, the shows, and the people who have been riding with him, and he is ready for whatever comes next.

"As a skateboarder, you need four smooth wheels in good shape & new condition for a smooth roll getting from point A to point B. But as soon as one of those wheels becomes abrasive and bumpy, its called getting a “FlatSpot” , it needs to be removed or replaced to continue rolling smoothly on your journey wherever that may be🤗
… but as a musician and as far as the band goes that I started with my friends Tim, Dylan and Chad called Urethane back in 2019, I became that flat-spot unfortunately due to personal and creative differences. For them to continue as a band, I kindly removed myself so they could continue on this musical journey as smoothly as possible. I wish them well and appreciated all the good times we shared creating new music and sounds, traveling the world and bringing joy to those who came to our shows wearing our tees and supporting our rockstar dreams. I also loved bringing my personal artwork on tour to share with all my friends and fans, so I am grateful for all of it. I hope and pray their next album is better than our last one and they gain a huge music following bigger than ever. Love those dudes ❤️ and I’ll miss em. Thanks to everyone else for all the love and support, I’m in good spirits about my decision and theirs. Hopefully one day I can start another music project/ band that aligns with my creative and personal perspective… thank you and God Bless❤️🙏🏼"
