Retired pro skateboarder Mike Mo Capaldi is saying goodbye to the pro skateboarding life and just announced his final signature boards with Girl Skateboards.
This is the end of an era when Capaldi fulfilled his dream and turned pro as a skateboarder, marking the start of a 16-year worth celebrating.
Capaldi's story with the Girl skate team started when he turned pro for the company he had always admired.
But there were obstacles along the way. Ten years ago, on the day he released his final board, Capaldi's dream was suddenly derailed by a tragic accident that caused nerve damage to his foot.
This injury made him retire when he was only 24, stopping a career that lots of people thought would keep getting better and better.
Capaldi had this idea to make one final pro model as a tribute to his legacy and the fans who had been there for him throughout his career.
They finished making the board but decided to hold off on releasing it until the 10th anniversary of his accident—kind of a symbolic way to bring everything full circle.
And now, that day has arrived. Capaldi's final pro model skateboard is now available on ABD Collectibles, allowing fans to own a piece of his legacy.
Capaldi posted:
MY LAST PRO MODEL BOARD IS HERE - GAME OVER
16 years ago, I was lucky enough to live out my dream of being a professional skateboarder and turn pro for my favorite company. @girlskateboards
10 years ago on this exact day is when that dream of being a pro skateboarder came to an end. I had a tragic accident that caused nerve damage in my foot which caused me to retire at the age of 24.
Girl has been generous enough to keep my board in their line for many years after my injury. In 2020, I told them that we should make one last board, which we originally planned to drop it in 2022, but after production was already printed we decided last second to hold it for the 10 year anniversary. And today is that day.... fucking crazy.
All boards are available on @abdcollectibles
