ASF Laminates, long known as one of the biggest names in skateboard deck production in North America, is now under new ownership and has a fresh name.
Skateboard industry veteran Travis McGlothin took the reins and is relaunching the company as Apex Laminates Limited.
The handoff wrapped up in March 2026 after months of getting everything ready, and the factory is already rolling with upgrades and new systems in place.
Based in Tijuana, Mexico, Apex Laminates keeps things close to the border so boards can hit U.S. streets fast.
The factory makes traditional 7-ply hard rock maple decks for brands across the continent. Everything from the maple to the adhesives comes from North America, and the way the operation is set up lets decks get into the U.S. and Canada without extra fees. That means brands get high-quality boards faster and for less hassle.
Travis knows the game inside and out. He’s spent over 35 years skating, building, and running skateboard businesses.
He says Apex Laminates is built to make sure brands don’t have to worry about supply or consistency while keeping prices fair. For him, it’s about making good decks that get to riders when they need them.
The move is also about bringing more skateboard production closer to home. With factories overseas tightening up and shipping taking longer, Apex Laminates is positioned to keep up with demand while keeping decks solid and affordable.
The Tijuana location gives the company an edge. Boards can cross the border and ship from San Diego as if they were made locally, which saves time and keeps brands moving. The factory is investing in better equipment, modern systems, and expanded capacity, so production is faster without cutting corners.
Travis says he wants Apex Laminates to be a company that brands can count on. It’s not just about making decks, it’s about keeping everything flowing so skaters get the boards they need, when they need them. With the relaunch, Apex Laminates is ready to take its spot back in the lineup of North America’s top deck makers.
