China’s 15 year old Zhu Yuanling won gold in the women’s street skateboarding final at the Asian Games on Sunday.
Zhu finished with 166.57 points at Aichi Sky Expo, beating Japan’s Yumeka Oda, who took silver. Defending champion Cui Chenxi finished third with 156.60 points.
Zhu ranked fifth in the preliminaries but delivered a strong final. She scored 79.73 in her third run before posting 86.84 in the second best trick round to take the lead.
Oda had briefly gone ahead after landing a 90.75 trick, but Zhu responded with her highest score of the final.
The 15 year old said she felt stunned after winning, calling it her first gold medal in international competition.
Zhu now joins a group of young athletes making headlines at this year’s Asian Games.
