Vans Off The Wall and Documentary Plus have released IMILLASKATE, a short film now streaming on Nowness.
The film focuses on ImillaSkate, a collective of Indigenous women from Cochabamba, Bolivia, who skate while wearing traditional pollera skirts.
Their skating is not just about technique but also about pride, identity, and community.
Created by Optimist, the film offers a close and personal look at how these women navigate public spaces on their boards.
The pollera, a colorful and culturally important skirt, flows behind them as they ride, adding something deeply meaningful to their skating.
The members of ImillaSkate bring strength and intention into everything they do. Instead of leaving tradition behind, they carry it with them.
The result is something that feels both personal and powerful. They skate as a group, supporting each other, laughing together, and showing that culture and self-expression can thrive side by side.
