Thrasher’s latest episode of This Old Ledge is all about J Kwon, and if you’ve skated or even just followed skateboarding for a bit, chances are you’ve seen this spot in more video parts than you can count.
Located in Los Angeles, J Kwon has been a familiar face in skate footage since the late '80s, and this new episode really gives it the love it deserves.
Hosted by Ted Schmitz, the episode goes way beyond a simple recap. It digs into clips from as far back as 1988, starting with Ray Barbee, whose smooth, timeless style helped lay the foundation for what J Kwon would become.
You’ll see footage from the '90s when the ledges were raw, crusty, and had that rough charm before they were cleaned up and became more recognizable to a newer generation of skaters. It’s wild seeing how much the spot has changed over time, not just in terms of the ground and ledges, but in how skaters have approached it. Each era added something to J Kwon’s legacy.
