As we previously reported, the gatekeeping king Weckingball has dropped his pick for the 2025 People’s Champ as an answer to the usual corporate Skater Of The Year announcement.
Major brands and shoe companies still steer the direction of the big title each year. Gary Rogers has pointed this out many times, saying that the whole decision usually sits with companies rather than the everyday skaters who follow the scene closely.
This is why Weckingball created his own award.
Skaters get to choose who they think truly showed the most heart and real street work this year. People trust that this choice comes straight from the community and that nothing about it is rigged.
Rogers landed the title after dropping an unreal amount of hammers in his part Happy Friday, handling the iconic Wallenberg spot and stacking lines that had skaters replaying clips nonstop.
His presence on the streets felt constant all year, and the votes showed it clearly.
Many skaters also remembered how he kept skating hard while dealing with cancer in the past, filming through it and beating it at the same time. That story still sticks with fans everywhere, and it adds even more weight to everything he did this year.
This award from Weckingball focuses on real street output and the people who actually watch and vote. Skaters chose Tj, and it feels like the most genuine title he could get.
Congrats to Rogers.
