Panther Hollow is lit right now over a little DIY skatepark that the local kids built themselves.
What started as a place to ride and hang with your crew has turned into straight-up neighborhood drama.
As we previously reported, some neighbors are not feeling it. Carlino Giampolo, who’s been on the block for decades, said the skatepark doesn’t belong there. “It’s outrageously illegal. That noise don’t stop. Used to be quiet, now it’s boards clacking all day and night,” he said.
The skaters ain’t backing down. Jordan, 16, said that they had nowhere to go. Streets ain’t safe, so they made their own spot. Keeps them moving and off the corners.
Things blew up at a recent community meeting. About forty people rolled through backing the skatepark, while twenty came ready to throw shade. Some neighbors want it moved inside or swapped for something quiet.
Councilmember Barb Warwick gets it from both sides. “Kids made something out of nothing. That’s real. But neighbors got a point about the noise. We gotta find a way everyone can live with,” she said.
