Core skateboarder Jose Cardenas was recently arrested during a No Kings protest, has started a GoFundMe to help cover his legal expenses.
The arrest came after an incident that involved a MAGA supporter who claimed to have been injured during the demonstration.
According to Cardenas, the situation was blown out of proportion. “I was at the No Kings protest and got arrested for second degree assault when I only took the guy’s glasses. I now have court November 3rd,” he said.
The protest began peacefully, with participants gathering to voice their opinions. Tensions rose when a man shouting pro-Trump slogans and using a derogatory slur confronted the crowd.
Eyewitnesses say the confrontation escalated quickly and became gnarly, leading to law enforcement stepping in.
Following the arrest, Cardenas has turned to the online community for support. His GoFundMe campaign is intended to help cover legal fees and related expenses as he prepares for his court appearance.
Some skaters are backing Cardenas and say they get where he’s coming from, pointing out how protests can get messy fast and how easy it is for things to get twisted in the heat of the moment.
Meanwhile, the MAGA supporter involved has said that he sustained injuries during the incident, though details remain unclear.
With his court date coming up, Cardenas’ case is catching eyes around town and online. Right now he’s just looking for some backup to handle the legal side and hopes everything gets sorted out straight.
