A protest in Denver became gnarly over the weekend, and video from the scene has been making the rounds online.
What started as a "No Kings" demonstration escalated when a man yelling pro-Trump slogans and using a gay slur confronted the protesters.
At one point, the man can be seen flipping off demonstrators and shouting at someone to ride their bike while throwing insults.
The situation caught more attention when a young person carrying a skateboard appeared to grab the man’s glasses and ran down the street.
The man gave chase, slipping and falling along the way, before getting up to continue after the skateboarder. Shortly afterward, it looks like he was tripped and fell hard on the pavement, injuring his head.
Denver Police confirmed Tuesday that the person arrested in connection with the incident is a 20-year-old named Jose Cardenas. He was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.
Authorities said witnesses identified Cardenas as the person responsible for tripping the man, which allegedly caused a serious head injury.
Police clarified that Cardenas is not the individual who took the man’s glasses.
That part of the incident is still under investigation, and police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person who tripped the man.
For now, the case is ongoing, and authorities are working to piece together the events from that Saturday protest.
