More and more professional skateboarders who built their names in earlier eras are finding themselves working outside the skateboarding world like everyone else.

It is a very different scene compared to the past when some pros were traveling constantly, getting sponsor deals, and living a lifestyle that looked far removed from regular jobs.

These days, a lot of well known names have shown that life after being at the top of skateboarding often means adapting to normal work like everyone else.

Moose once worked at Home Depot. Heath Kirchart spent time doing pizza deliveries. Joey Brezinski took on postal work. Kyle Walker worked in payment processing. These examples show that even well known skaters can end up taking different paths once their time in the spotlight slows.

Now former Black Label pro skateboarder Chet Childress, a longtime figure in the skate world, has spoken up about needing work and reached out directly to the community.

Childress Said:

“Hello Portlanders, I am currently looking for work. Willing to adapt, learn and grow in a positive way. Please send me a direct message if you have any insights and thank you for your support.”

The message is simple and direct, and it reflects a reality that many skaters face after years in the scene. Not everyone continues earning from skating long term, and many end up looking for new roles in different fields.

What stands out here is how open Chet is about starting fresh and being willing to take on different kinds of work.

It shows how even longtime figures in skateboarding can find themselves in a place where reaching out for opportunities becomes part of everyday life.

For many people in the skate community, this is not unusual. Careers shift, income sources change, and priorities move in new directions. The culture may have once looked like it was built only around skating, but real life often takes people into completely different directions.

Chet asking for work also shows how recognition in skateboarding does not always translate into long term financial stability.

Childress Posted:

"Looking to open a new chapter of life Mon’ looking to join a positive vibration."
