For years, rumors have followed professional skateboarder Nyjah Huston despite his success, sponsorships, and global attention that came with the Olympics.
Along with the praise and headlines about contests and video parts, there has also been a long running conversation online centered around allegations and stories that have circulated in comment sections, forums, and social media threads.
Some of those rumors date back more than a decade.
One of the most talked about involved claims about a video that people said showed Huston having sex with a woman who was passed out.
The story has floated around online spaces for years, often resurfacing whenever his name trends or when new interviews come out.
Despite how widely it has circulated, the claims have never resulted in criminal charges and no verified footage has ever surfaced publicly.
Another allegation appeared years later when a Twitter user claimed she had attended a party at Huston’s house in Orange County and accused him of sexual assault.
According to the story that circulated at the time, the user said she and friends had been drinking at the house before the alleged incident happened.
The claim spread online quickly, but the person who made it reportedly refused to cooperate with investigators and eventually disappeared from the conversation altogether.
Stories like these are the kind that tend to live online for years once they gain traction.
Even when details remain unclear or unverified, they often continue circulating as screenshots, secondhand retellings, or rumors repeated in comment sections.
For public figures, especially athletes with large audiences, a single accusation or rumor can become something that follows them indefinitely, regardless of whether it is ever substantiated.
For a long time, Huston did not publicly address the stories directly.
According to him, advisors and representatives suggested leaving the topic alone rather than revisiting it.
But during a sit down interview with Thrasher Magazine, the topic finally came up and he decided to respond.
Thrasher: Let's get to a more serious question: With the Olympics and all the success you've had, there's been a lot of scrutiny as well as rumors and wild stories. There's one rumor we have to ask you about and that has to do with a sexual assault. Do you want to address that rumor?
Nyjah: Yeah, I actually do. This is something I want to address and I think it's something that maybe I could have talked about years ago. I think it's finally time to shed some light on what actually happened, which really isn't much. I'm still confused on how these rumors got to where they're at. But yeah, let's talk about it. So, first off, before I tell any story about anything that happened, I want to be very clear to everyone that I've never sexually assaulted anyone in my life and that just isn't something I would ever do. That's not who I am as a person. And I feel like people know the life that I live. I've had sex with plenty of girls and they've always been consensual. I'm not the type of person that would do something like that. I'm not an aggressive person; I'm not a forceful person; I'm a pretty mellow guy. For someone that knows me, they would know what I'm talking about. So let's get down to it.
A couple years ago there was a random girl on Twitter I've never met in my life. There was a photo. It was her photo on her profile pic, and I looked at it and I was like, I've never met this girl before. Why is she making this up? And she made up the story about her partying at my Orange County house five years ago. And I think she maybe even tried to say she was underage and then said some sketchy story about me sexually assaulting her after getting her and her friends drunk. And when she was contacted by an investigation team, she refused to talk and completely disappeared. I'm pretty sure my sponsors had to look into this; I'm pretty sure something with the Olympic committee had to look into this. So this is just a good example of how someone can just make up something and people just believe it.
I'm very aware of how often women get sexually assaulted in this world we live in and how horrible it is. I've heard some hectic stories over the years. But in this case, this story is completely made up. As soon as I read the story I knew it was made up. And then saw her photo and was like, what the f*ck? I've never even seen or met this girl in my life.
And then we got the main one. Back ten years ago, there was a rumor that still lingers to this day about there being a video of me having sex with a girl when she was, I don't even know, passed out or whatever. When the truth is, my buddy walked in the room filming me when I was hooking up with this chick. Everyone was drinking and hanging out, me and this girl were feeling each other. I was 17 at the time and she was over 20 years old. We went to a room, we had sex and it was consensual. No one was passed out, she was awake, we were kissing, making out, having sex, doing our thing.
And my buddy walks in, just on some dumb sht, filming me hook up with this chick. And basically, I don't know how the story got twisted up like it did, but the only weird thing about the whole situation was my buddy fcking around, trying to film it. And I actually told him to stop filming it, because I was like, "Bro, what are you doing?"
I mean, there's a reason why there's never been any evidence of this. There's a reason why there have never been any legal charges filed. I've had to deal with this and people bringing this up for so many years now and it sucks. It's been one of those things that, trust me, I've wanted to tell this story and I've wanted to talk about this for so long now, but it's actually been something that my legal people or PR people or my agent or sponsors haven't wanted me to bring up. Because it's one of those things that it's confusing if enough people know about it to bring it up, and if you're going to make it worse by bringing it up.
But this time I'm just like, Bro, I'm over people bringing this up. I got to say something about it. It really sucks. I mean, it really sucks because basically anybody can say anything they want nowadays and it's so easy for people to believe it and it's so easy for it to hit the media and become something. And I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt me a bit, that people not only make up rumors, but are so easy to believe them and try to make me out to be some careless monster.
I want to say firsthand that I have respect for women. My roommate in Laguna Beach, the only person I live with there, is a woman, my friend Alexa. And we've been best friends for a long time now. I have a mother and sister who I love and I could never just treat women like that. I can't do that. And here's something I really want to explain and hopefully this will give people some more clarity on the life I live and who I am.
Thrasher: I think it's great that you addressed it. Is there anything else you want to add?
Nyjah: I guess the only thing I can add is, first off, I hope that people believe me and I hope that people maybe try to have a more open mind and understanding of who I am as a person instead of assuming who I am from hearing rumors, because that's just not fair to anyone.
The interview marked one of the first times he publicly talked through the rumors in detail instead of ignoring them.
After years of speculation circulating online, the conversation put his perspective on record in a long form setting.
Whether it changes public opinion or not remains to be seen, but you can tell that he wanted to finally address the topic rather than let the stories continue without his response.
