As we previously reported, the Hellride 1 and Hellride 2 ramps at Tompkins Square Park have been replaced by the Holy Ride, a new DIY setup built in the name of Jesus Christ.

In case you missed it, we also reported on the behind the scenes of how the Holy Ride came together, showing the work that went into building the setup from scratch.

The whole thing feels very much in line with the DIY spirit of core skating.

Pieces were built, connected, adjusted and shaped by the crew until the ramps became something that skaters could actually ride.

There was plenty of work involved, but the crew clearly had fun with the process along the way.

For designer John Francomacaro, there was also a little more behind the Holy Ride than simply replacing the previous ramps.

Francomacaro explained that the religious theme was partly meant to give the park police a little grief if they ever decided to tear the setup down.

He also said that you have to have Jesus on your side while referencing the Satanism and the Epstein scandal.

He also explained that the previous Hellride setup had grown beyond what the crew originally had in mind, with Hellride 1 and Hellride 2 becoming a much bigger presence at the park.

The previous Hellride ramps had become part of the park's skateboarding scene, but their replacement gave the crew an opportunity to take the concept in a completely different direction.

Naming a DIY skate ramp Holy Ride and putting Jesus at the heart of the concept is the kind of thing that fits right in with the skate scene.

For anyone who has followed the evolution of the Holy Ride, you already know that the ramps do not need to come from a polished skatepark company or a carefully designed public facility.

The crew can build something themselves, give it a name, and let everyone shred it.

And judging from Francomacaro's explanation, having a little Jesus on their side certainly did not hurt.
