Pro skateboarder Jimmy Gorecki recently shared memories from the early days of the iconic BBC Ice Cream Board Flip.
In late 2005, just before Thanksgiving, he was called to Miami on short notice for a 48-hour trip. On arrival, he found himself on set with Nino Scalia and Pharrell, who had brought a bag full of Boardflip samples.
The crew then walked a few blocks to shoot images with Gary Land, the photographer behind many memorable moments of that era. Those photos went on to appear in introductory ads and even as cover art for DJ Drama’s greatest gangsta grills tape.
Gorecki recalled the love and excitement that the crew had for skateboarding.
He reflected on how none of them could have imagined being part of one of the defining chapters of what Nigo and Pharrell were creating together.
Fellow professional skateboarder Terry Kennedy, and the rest of the crew all played key roles in bringing the project to life.
Now, the Board Flips from BBC Ice Cream are set to be re-released at ComplexCon.
The re-release gives skaters a chance to experience a piece of that creative history and celebrate the skateboarders, designers, and photographers who helped shape it.
It’s not just about the shoes themselves, it’s about the friendships, the creativity, and the moments that made them iconic. For anyone following skateboarding culture or fashion, this is a moment to reconnect with a story that still resonates today.

"Couple days before thanksgiving 2005, @ninoscalia hit me and said pack a bag, flying you down to Miami for a 48 hours. Get a callsheet. Next day on location in the trailer, Nino, and @pharrell come in with a bag containing dozens of samples of Boardflips. Little did we know we’d walk a couple blocks over and shoot these images with a man that has captured so many iconic moments of the era; Mr. @garyland 📷
Shortly after, Gary’s photographs become introductory ads, and cover art for @djdrama greatest gangsta grills tape… 🖖🏼🛹💎💲🍦☠️"
He added:
"We all just loved skateboarding. None of us could’ve imagined playing a part in one of the most important chapters of what @nigo & @pharrell carved out together. Boardflips c/o @bbcicecream releasing Saturday at @complexcon
