Italian luxury fashion house Gucci is stepping into a space many did not expect, and the timing could not be more interesting.
As we previously reported, Palace Skateboards pro Lucien Clarke has officially ended his time with DC Shoes.
Not long after, he was spotted cruising through the streets wearing a pair of Gucci skate shoes.
It immediately caught attention of the skate community because Clarke has always been associated with style on and off the board, and seeing him link up with a major fashion house hints at something bigger.
Now that Gucci has revealed its Cruise 2026 collection, things are starting to make sense.
The brand has started to embrace skateboarding in a way that feels deliberate.
It is not simply a quick crossover moment. Gucci is treating skateboarding as part of its creative direction, folding it into the identity of the new collection.
For fans of Clarke, this shift feels natural.
Before joining DC, he rode for Louis Vuitton during a time when the label was beginning to explore skate culture as well.
He even released a signature shoe with help from the late creative director Virgil Abloh, which made him one of the few skateboarders to ever receive that level of recognition from a luxury brand.
With his history of working in high fashion, Clarke stepping into the Gucci world feels less like a random surprise and more like a continuation of something he helped shape.
The Cruise 2026 campaign from Gucci highlights Florence, the city where the brand began.
Instead of keeping the collection confined to studio settings, the visuals take place in real streets and open spaces.
It matches well with Clarke’s presence since he has always represented the mix between street skating and luxury fashion.
Skateboarding feels like a natural extension of this approach rather than an add on.
Gucci posted the following message for the announcement:
“An interplay of softness and structure captured on the streets of Florence.
Now available in stores and online.
With Clarke already seen riding in Gucci shoes and the new collection leaning into skate culture, many are expecting this partnership to grow.
