Skateboarding legend and punk rocker Duane Peters has been clean from alcohol and drugs for four years.
While his life has had many ups and downs, DP says that sobriety has allowed him to reflect and focus on improving himself.
Over the years, he has had conflicts with other skateboarding figures including Tony Hawk, Christian Hosoi, and Tony Alva.
The Master of Disaster has shared that he spends a lot of time praying and working on forgiving those who have hurt him or disagreed with him. For him, this process of self-reflection is as important as staying clean.
Life has been far from easy.
DP has been living without a stable home and spent part of the last holiday season sleeping outside in the rain.
Even with these challenges, he continues to sell some of his memorabilia to cover basic needs. These pieces of skateboarding history remain valuable to fans and collectors.
Finding work has also been difficult, especially as he gets older.
DP has reached out to supporters through PayPal and Venmo, asking for help only from those who are able. Every contribution helps him keep a roof over his head and continue his path of sobriety.
Despite everything, the street punk icon remains focused on being a better version of himself.
He continues to connect with fans and share updates about his life, showing that it is possible to move forward even in difficult circumstances.
On social media, he shared his progress with enthusiasm saying:
"4 YEARS SOBER TODAY ! BUY MY BATON TWIRLING POP SIKLE SKATE W/#jaks #lyrics #etnies #earthwindfire #dmtobuy"
DP’s story shows he’s been through the fire and keeps coming back. Life hasn’t been easy, but he’s holding it down, staying clean, keeping his head straight, and trying to piece things back together.
