Plank Magazine editor Sam Korman and professional skateboarder Bobby Puleo are inviting the public to spend an afternoon walking through some of Lower Manhattan’s most recognizable skate locations on May 23rd.
Starting at Columbus Park at 1pm, the tour will revisit spots featured in Puleo’s parts from INFMS, Peep This, and his Wheels of Fortune section in 411 Issue 10. Along the way, Puleo will share stories behind the sessions, the streets, and the changing landscape of downtown New York skating.
The route moves through places that have carried years of skate history including the Brooklyn Banks, One Police Plaza, and the South Street Seaport. Rather than simply revisiting old footage, the walk gives people a chance to hear how Puleo approached each location and why certain spots became memorable parts of skate videos from that era.
For many skaters, these places hold a connection to a different period of New York street skating. Some of the spots still exist in altered form while others have changed completely over time. Puleo’s perspective brings attention to the details people may normally walk past, from the architecture of a ledge to the history behind a plaza or pathway.
Hosted by Montez Press Radio and Plank Magazine, the event is free and open to the public. Anyone interested in skateboarding history, downtown New York, or Bobby Puleo’s video parts is welcome to join the walk through the city.
