SideWalk Distribution co-founder Bill Weiss and a longtime figure in skateboarding, recently took to social media to share a deeply personal health update.
What started as a lingering cough turned into something much more serious.
In his post, Weiss explained that after dealing with a cough that lasted four months, he decided to get things checked out. Multiple scans and medical evaluations led to the discovery that he had both Sarcoidosis and Stage 1 lung cancer.
“Difficult news indeed,” he wrote. “But my doctors came up with a plan and removed a portion of my lung.”
The message was clear and grounded. He urged others not to ignore signs from their body. “The main thing I have learned from this is listen to your body and if something feels off get it checked out,” he said.
Weiss made sure to thank the medical professionals who guided him through the process. “I am very grateful for my amazing team of doctors Diamant, Sweidan and Stanley and their due diligence to get this removed.”
For many who’ve followed his career, from his work behind the scenes to his constant presence supporting skateboarding in countless ways, the news came as heavy.
Still, Weiss’s honesty and the fact that his condition was caught early gives a sense of hope.
While recovery from surgery and dealing with these diagnoses is no small thing, his post reflected the kind of level-headed and grounded thinking many have come to associate with him over the years.
His openness may encourage others to pay closer attention to their own health, especially when something doesn’t feel right.
We’re wishing Bill Weiss all the best as he continues to recover and take care of himself.
