A performance involving a bear on a skateboard ended in chaos when the animal turned on its trainer in front of a stunned crowd.

The show, held in a small traveling circus, featured the brown bear dressed in a costume and awkwardly balancing on a skateboard as part of the act.

Things took a gnarly show when the bear abruptly jumped off the skateboard, lunged at the trainer, and knocked him to the ground.

Footage from the scene shows the trainer trying to regain control while other handlers rush in with sticks to pull the bear off.

Screams can be heard from the audience as parents scrambled to shield their children from the scene.

The trainer reportedly suffered serious injuries but is expected to recover.

Animal rights groups have long criticized the use of wild animals in circuses, especially bears, which are often subjected to harsh training methods from a young age.

Skateboard tricks, in particular, are known to be difficult for the animals due to their weight, limited mobility, and natural instincts.
