For many skateboarders who grew up in the early 2000s, the Adio Bam Margera V1 is one of those shoes that brings back a lot of memories.
Released during Margera's peak years, the signature model became a favorite for skaters. Unfortunately, Adio ran into major problems around 2010 and 2011.
The company scaled back its operations, made a few attempts to return, and eventually disappeared from the skate shoe market.
That is why finding an original pair from 2001 is already uncommon. Finding one that can actually be skated or worn is even harder after more than two decades.
One longtime owner recently got exactly that opportunity after sending his original Adio Margera V1s to RestoreKicks for a hybrid sole swap with pro skater TJ Roger’s éS pro shoe.

The process kept the classic upper while replacing the worn out sole with one that makes the shoes wearable again.
Sharing the finished project, RestoreKicks wrote:
"My 3rd hybrid swap, but this time on a brand I’ve never touched before. Adio Bam Margera V1 2001.
I really didn’t know what to expect but I was confident in my skill to make it happen.
My client had been holding onto these since 2001 and to now have them wearable, reliving memories from 25 years ago that’s a full circle moment.
Thanks for trusting me."
For collectors, keeping a vintage pair untouched is one option. For others, bringing an old favorite back into rotation is worth much more than leaving it on display.
After sitting for about 25 years, these Adios can finally be worn again while keeping the original look that made them special.
Projects like this have become more common as classic skate shoes continue to age. The foam, rubber, and glue used on many models from the late 1990s and early 2000s naturally break down over time, even if the shoes have barely been used.
Hybrid swaps have given collectors another way to enjoy pairs that would otherwise remain too fragile to wear.
For the owner of this pair, the restoration is about more than saving an old shoe. It is a chance to lace up the same Adio Margera V1s that have been with him since 2001 and relive memories from a different era of skateboarding.
