Skateboarding journalist Robert Brink has called out Kelly Hart over allegations of longstanding homophobia.

He claims the issue has been discussed within the skateboarding industry for years. Brink also says he plans to share more evidence and his thoughts on The Nine Club’s history of controversial behavior and broadcasting decisions.

In his post, Brink recalled conversations about Hart dating back to 2009, when he was working with éS Footwear. According to Brink, the company did not officially put Hart on its team for roughly seven years, despite discussions surrounding his alleged behavior.

Brink also shared an encounter with Roger Bagley, one of the people behind The Nine Club, from early 2021. At the time, Brink was making candles for the skateboarding podcast and Bagley visited the studio to collect the final order.

During their conversation, Hart’s name came up. Brink says he asked Bagley, “Is Kelly still a homophobe?” According to Brink, Bagley replied without hesitation, “Oh yeah!”

Brink added that he was unaware of Bagley’s political views at the time. He later criticized Bagley over what he described as his anti transgender positions and support for Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk and the broader manosphere movement.

There was also an unusual personal detail Brink brought up in his post. He claimed Bagley had used a photo featuring the two of them for his Tinder profile, something he found perplexing at the time.

However, Hart was the main subject of Brink’s criticism, particularly after a video surfaced showing the skateboarder being confronted by another man outside what appeared to be a bar.

Brink alleged that the confrontation involved Hart’s reported use of a homophobic slur. He described the footage as a recent incident and rejected the idea that Hart had been randomly targeted by an aggressive stranger who invented a story about him.

According to Brink, the encounter should be viewed in the context of what he describes as Hart’s history of drunken confrontations with people in public. He argued that viewers should not automatically dismiss the incident as an isolated misunderstanding.

Brink was equally critical of those who might defend Hart or question the circumstances surrounding the footage. He maintained that the video was being presented as evidence of a larger problem, not simply an unpleasant exchange between two strangers.

His criticism also extended to Hart’s background. Brink took aim at what he characterized as the privileges Hart has enjoyed growing up in Orange County, California, and questioned his past claims about being from Laguna Beach while reportedly living in Laguna Niguel.

Brink’s post ended with a pointed comment about Hart’s age and alleged drinking habits. He argued that, at 41, Hart should be old enough to understand the consequences of his behavior and reconsider his attitudes toward marginalized groups.

The post is only the beginning, according to Brink. He says he plans to publish additional material examining The Nine Club’s history, including what he considers problematic conduct and broader issues surrounding the podcast’s role in skateboarding media.

For now, Brink has made his position on Hart clear. His forthcoming posts may offer more context for the allegations and his criticism of the people associated with the show.
