Skate Like a Girl has officially introduced Erika Brosnihan as its new Executive Director, welcoming a longtime skateboarder and nonprofit leader to help guide the organization into its next chapter.
In a message shared with the community, Brosnihan introduced herself and spoke about both her professional background and her personal connection to skateboarding.
She shared that she grew up in the Washington, DC metro area and has spent her career working with educational and community based nonprofits. Much of her work has focused on bringing people together and creating opportunities for people to connect with one another.
Outside of her professional experience, Brosnihan said skateboarding has been a part of her life since she was 8 years old. She explained that many of her closest friendships and favorite memories came through the skateboarding community, giving her a deep understanding of how skating can help people feel welcome, build confidence, and connect with others from different backgrounds.
That personal connection is one of the reasons she said she is excited to take on the role at Skate Like a Girl. She expressed her appreciation for everything the organization has accomplished over the past 25 years and said she looks forward to helping continue that work alongside the community.
Brosnihan also thanked everyone for the warm welcome and said she is excited to meet more members of the Skate Like a Girl community in the months ahead.
Founded in 2000, Skate Like a Girl has become one of the most recognized nonprofit organizations in skateboarding. Through lessons, events, youth programs, and community outreach, the organization has worked to make skateboarding more welcoming and accessible for women, girls, transgender, and nonbinary skaters.
With Brosnihan now leading the organization, Skate Like a Girl begins a new chapter while continuing the work that has made it an important part of the skateboarding community for more than two decades.
