The Uganda Skateboard Society has spent years giving local kids a place where they could skate, make friends, stay out of trouble, and simply enjoy being together.

Led by founder Nsubuga Gerald, the community has grown into something that means much more than just a place to ride.

Sadly, that skatepark is now gone.

After calling the same location home for about 10 years, the skatepark was demolished because the property owner needed the land for commercial use.

Even though it is a heartbreaking situation, the Uganda Skateboard Society shared that they are grateful to the owners for allowing them to use the land free of charge for an entire decade.

Losing the skatepark leaves a huge gap for the local scene. It was where kids learned their first tricks, spent time after school, and built friendships through skateboarding.

Without obstacles to ride, it becomes much harder for beginners to learn and for the community to keep gathering in one place.

Thankfully, there is some good news.

Thrasher Magazine joined forces with Adidas Skateboarding and helped secure and purchase a new plot of land in Mukono for the Uganda Skateboard Society. While the new location is ready, the work is only just beginning.

The land still needs ramps, ledges, rails, and everything else that turns an empty space into a skatepark.

That is why they are asking the global skateboarding community to lend a hand. Every donation will help cover construction costs and bring the new park to life so local skaters can get back to doing what they love.

Thrasher Magazine shared the following message:

"🚨 PLEASE READ! LET’S REBUILD THE UGANDA SKATEPARK! 🚨 Our friends @ugandaskateboardsociety had their skatepark demolished. With @gose_gerald and @adidasskateboarding, we secured and purchased a new plot of land in Mukono 🇺🇬 Now we need the global skate community to help build it. Please donate to support construction 👷🏽‍♂️ Link in our bio. BIG LOVE 🖤"
