Reliance Skateboards faith-based pro skater Brian Sumner has released his “Pierced” signature board, sharing a message rooted in his faith in Jesus Christ and what the cross means to him.
The board graphic is not just a design choice for him. It is tied to the moment in Christian belief where Jesus was crucified, willingly going through suffering for humanity.
Sumner has spoken about how the nails that pierced Jesus’ hands and feet were part of that sacrifice, and how he sees it as an act of love for sinners.
He often references Isaiah 53:5, which says Jesus was pierced for our transgressions and that through His wounds people can find forgiveness and peace with God.
The message behind the board goes deeper than skate culture or personal branding. It is centered on his belief that Jesus gave His life so people could have eternal life, and that the resurrection after three days shows victory over sin and death.

He also contrasts everyday skate life with that message. Boards get worn down, shoes get torn up, and styles shift over time. But in his view, what Jesus did on the cross holds lasting importance that does not fade with time or trends.
His pro board stands as a reflection of that belief, combining his professional skate career with his Christian faith in a way that he continues to express publicly through his work and releases.

"@relianceskate @briansumner “Pierced” signature deck is iconic, not just because of the graphic, but because it points to the greatest sacrifice ever made.
The nails that pierced Jesus’ hands and feet weren’t an accident. He willingly endured the cross for sinners like us. He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities, and through His wounds we can be forgiven and made right with God.
Jesus Christ gave His life so that we could have eternal life.
The cross wasn’t the end. Three days later, He rose from the grave, defeating sin and death forever.
Skateboarding is temporary. Decks break. Shoes wear out. Trends come and go. But what Jesus did on the cross remains the most important event in history.
“He was pierced for our transgressions...” - Isaiah 53:5"
