It has been two decades since skateboarding legend Danny Way stood at the top of the giant guitar structure at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and looked down at a drop that most people at the time thought was out of reach.

What happened next would go on to become one of the most talked about moments in skateboarding.

Back then, it was not just about setting a record.

It was about the build up that led to that night. Years of work, injuries, trial runs, and belief all came together in a single attempt.

There was no guarantee it would work. There was real risk, and everyone watching knew it.

In a recent post, Danny reflected on that night in his own words.

He shared how he stood at the top of the guitar, facing something that many believed could not be done.

He said that the moment was never only about the drop itself, but everything that came before it. The planning, the people involved, and the mindset it took to even try.

He also took time to thank those who backed the idea from the start. Gnarly moments like that rarely happen alone, and he made sure to acknowledge the team that helped bring it to life.

Danny Posted:

"20 years ago today, I stood at the top of the guitar at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas staring at something most people thought couldn’t be done.
That night wasn’t just about the world record bomb drop, it was about years of preparation, belief and pushing past fear.
Grateful to everyone who believed in the vision and helped make it happen.

Looking back after 20 years, it still stands out as one of the wildest experiences of his life.

For fans who remember watching it live or seeing clips later on, it is easy to understand why. The height, the setting in Las Vegas, and the scale of the build all added to how unreal it felt.

Time has passed, but that moment still gets talked about whenever people bring up the biggest feats in skateboarding. And you can tell that it is something that never left Danny until this day.
