As we previously reported, Terry Kennedy recently rebranded his TK Skate Co. to Protest Skateboards.
Some fans are excited about it, but not everyone is on board.
The original founder of Protest Skateboards, Michael Faux, started the brand back in 2002 and still runs it in his own way, and he isn’t happy about someone else using the name.
Faux built Protest Skateboards from the ground up and even raised Andy Anderson when he was a young buck through the brand while keeping the company alive in small ways.
Over the years, he has created collector decks and shared the history of the brand online.
Despite stepping back from day-to-day operations, Faux has maintained control over the name and continues to operate under Protest Movement.
When TK's boards appeared on the streets under the new name, Faux was not okay with it.
The original Protest Skateboards is not for sale, and the brand name is meant to stay with him.
Faux’s stance is simple and said that TK should pick a new name for his company.
The skating community is now watching to see how TK will respond. Meanwhile, Faux continues to release special collector decks and keep the original spirit of Protest Skateboards alive.
The situation shows the importance of brand history and ownership, and some names carry a legacy that can’t simply be taken.
