After the documents began circulating, the skateboarding community had plenty of questions, and speculation spread quickly online. Many skaters were unsure what to make of Hawk’s alleged appearance in the files.
Right wing conservative pro skater Henry Sanchez spoke out in support of Hawk and said he does not believe the allegations reflect anything about the Birdman personally.
Sanchez said: "It’s like the Diddy thing. I don’t think everyone on that list knew. Even most people that went to Diddy parties weren’t involved. I’d say the same with Epstein. It sucks to say but don’t think it means Hawk is a pedo."
He added context about Diddy, who was sentenced to four years and two months in prison for transporting people across state lines for sexual encounters, capping a federal case that included harrowing testimony and ended in a forceful reckoning for one of the most popular figures in hip-hop.
Sanchez used the comparison to make the point that being listed in documents does not automatically imply guilt.
Sanchez’s opinion shows a perspective within the skate community that not everyone mentioned in documents or attending events connected to Epstein should automatically be considered guilty of wrongdoing.
He explained the importance of separating facts from speculation and reminded skaters not to jump to conclusions based on lists or media attention alone.
