The Uganda Skateboard Society has shared difficult news about its founder, Nsubuga Gerald, who recently suffered a serious injury while skating.

Gerald, who has been one of the main people building and growing the skateboarding community in Uganda, went down hard while trying a frontside tailslide on a ledge that had been overwaxed. The slam left him with a completely broken arm.

After the bail, Gerald was taken to a local hospital where doctors gave him immediate treatment, including a cast and antibiotics.

Medical staff have since confirmed that the break is severe and that surgery is necessary for proper healing.

Without it, the risk of long-term damage is high. Recovery is expected to take at least six months, which means Gerald will be off his skateboard for quite some time.

In a post on the Uganda Skateboard Society page, the crew explained what happened and why the community’s support is needed. They are now calling on friends, skaters, and supporters around the world to help raise money so Gerald can get the surgery he urgently requires.

Gerald himself also posted on his socials, giving his own perspective on the accident.

He wrote that the fall happened when he slipped out on the trick, trying to protect his ribs but ending up with a broken right arm.

Despite the pain, Gerald stayed positive, saying that skateboarding has been part of his life for over 20 years and that injuries come with the path he chose.

He thanked everyone who has sent him kind words and encouragement, adding that he will be off his board for now but keeping his spirits up.

For anyone who knows Gerald or has seen the growth of skateboarding in Uganda, it’s clear how important he is to the scene.

He has been leading by example, teaching young skaters, and creating a sense of community around skateboarding.

With this setback, he now needs help from that same community. Donations will go directly toward his surgery and recovery, making it possible for him to heal and return to the work he loves.
