Two years have gone by since The Berrics hit the brakes on everything they were producing, and the site that once kept skaters glued to their screens has been left sitting in standby mode.
The message on the homepage promises a rebirth, but until then, it’s been a long wait for the community that grew up checking in daily for videos, battles, and behind-the-scenes clips.
The Berrics was the brainchild of Steve Berra and Eric Koston, two names that carry massive weight in skateboarding.
What they built wasn’t just a website, it became a hangout spot for skaters all over the world.
You could wake up and find new parts, contests, interviews, and of course Battle At The Berrics, which turned into the most watched skateboarding series on YouTube.
For many fans, that series alone was worth logging in for, and when it suddenly stopped, it felt like a whole era of skateboarding content had gone quiet.
The break wasn’t something anyone expected. Financial losses hit hard, and with the costs of running such a huge operation, Berra and Koston had no choice but to pull the plug.
Their developers tried to rework the site, but instead of a revival, it ended up going into a long pause with an error page that frustrated anyone who clicked in. For a community used to constant updates and heavy content drops, the silence has been rough.
Still, the story of The Berrics isn’t finished.
The “rebirth coming soon” message on the site shows that Berra and Koston aren’t ready to let the project fade away completely.
It might return in the same form or take a new direction, but the name still carries enough weight to draw skaters back in once the doors finally open again.
In the meantime, all we have to do is to wait.
Two years of quiet have left a big hole in skateboarding media, but there’s still a sense that when The Berrics finally returns, skaters will be ready to tune back in like nothing ever changed.
