Skateboarding gatekeeper Weckingball is calling for a rebrand of one of the most iconic grinds in the game.
In a recent post, he declared, “We are renaming the feeble grind. Okay go.” He also made it clear that “No one wants to do a grind that’s frail and weak.”
For those unfamiliar, the feeble grind is a trick that’s a gnarly smith grind but on the other side. Or if you are not aware of the smith grind you can just watch the video below.
The name, however, has always sounded… a little off. “Feeble” just doesn’t match the feeling of throwing one down on a handrail. It sounds like something brittle and shy. And Weckingball isn’t having it.
He pointed out that Josh Nelson, the skater credited with landing the first feeble grind, is completely fine with the trick being renamed.
That said, Nelson’s not offering up any suggestions either. He's leaving it up to the skaters of today to figure it out.
One name already floated comes from skateboarding legend Danny Way: “stage grind.” It’s not locked in, but it's officially on the table.
Whether it sticks or not, Weckingball has opened the floodgates for ideas. Skaters from all over are now chiming in with their own takes on what the grind should be called going forward.
This isn’t the first time skaters have questioned the names of tricks. But it’s rare for such a well-known one to be put up for public discussion.
For now, all suggestions are welcome. Weckingball plans to pick the one that fits best.
So if you’ve ever thought you had a better name for the feeble grind, now’s your chance to drop it.
