Vans Off The Wall Is Entering The Clog Game, From Skate to Slip-On

When you hear “Vans,” your mind probably jumps straight to skate shoes.

Since the brand’s start in 1966, it has been the go-to name for sneakers that can take a beating at the park, look good with worn-in jeans, or carry you through a long day at a show.

For decades, Vans has balanced accessibility with style, creating shoes that feel just as at home on a skateboard as they do in an office or a backyard hangout.

As we previously reported, corporate giant VF Corp’s Vans was facing low sales and has been taking steps to turn things around, including bringing on singer-songwriter SZA as their new Artistic Director. Now, the Off The Wall brand is reaching beyond its skateboarding roots by introducing clogs to attract a broader audience.

But this summer, the brand is steering into fresh territory. Instead of another classic skate silhouette or reimagined low-top, Vans Off The Wall is stepping into the clog game. Yes, clogs.

This comes through artist Sterling Ruby and his label S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA, who have teamed up with Vans OTW before. This time, the collaboration is bringing us the Future Clog, a sculptural design unlike anything Vans has done before.

The shoe feels almost futuristic, with a chunky, asymmetrical shape that looks like it could have rolled straight out of a design lab.

Ruby has said part of the inspiration comes from his childhood in the Netherlands, where clogs were worn all the time for gardening and shop work. That personal touch comes through in the design, which is practical but also eye-catching enough to turn heads on the street.

Of course, this release isn’t just about clogs. The latest OTW x S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA collection also includes reworked versions of the Old Skool and Authentic, along with a full lineup of apparel.

It’s the Future Clog that’s stealing the spotlight, since it marks Vans’ first real entry into a style category that’s been picking up steam over the last few years.

Vans announced the release with a simple statement:

"Introducing the Future Clog.
