Sunland Skate Shop has announced that it will be closing its doors after years of serving local skaters and creating a welcoming place for people to buy boards, meet friends and share stories.

The closure comes at a time when independent skate shops continue to face pressure from larger retailers.

Losing a core shop means losing more than a place to buy equipment. These stores often become meeting spots where friendships form and local scenes grow.

Corporate retailers are built around sales, while independent skate shops are often deeply connected to the people who skate in their area.

The owners and staff can introduce younger skaters to the culture, help someone choose their first setup and give local riders a place where they feel at home.

That is why supporting independent skate shops matters.

Buying from your local shop helps keep money within the scene and gives these businesses a better chance of staying open.

Once a core shop closes, its physical space can be replaced, but the relationships built there cannot.

Right now, Sunland is offering 30% to 70% off everything as it prepares to close.

Thank you so much to Sunland Skate Shop for all the years of service, friendships and good times.
