Skateboarder Dies After Colliding with Jeep

A skateboarder who came to visit his grandmother in Barnsdall died Monday morning after a skateboard accident near a busy intersection, according to police.

According to reports, Simon Shaw, 43, was from the Oklahoma City area and had made the trip to see family. Around 8 a.m., police say he was riding his skateboard on Maple Avenue when he hit the side of a Jeep crossing through the intersection at State Highway 11 and West Maple. He was run over in the crash.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and took Shaw by ambulance toward Bartlesville, but he didn’t survive the trip, said Barnsdall Police Chief John Ferguson. The Osage County Sheriff's Office also helped out with the investigation.

Ferguson said Shaw wasn’t new to Barnsdall. He’d been to the small town before and was in town this time just to spend time with his grandmother.

“It’s sad for the family,” Ferguson said.

The investigation is still ongoing, and no other details about the driver have been released.
