The Plainfield community is mourning the loss of 18-year-old Andrew J. Keys, who died last week after being hit by a car while skateboarding.

Keys, a resident of Plainfield, was skateboarding in a lane of traffic when the driver, who did not see him, struck him early in the morning.

The Plainfield Police Department confirmed that there is no indication of any wrongdoing by the driver, though the investigation is still ongoing.

The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Heggs Road and 127th Street, a spot that has now become the focus of local concern.

Friends and family are remembering Andrew as someone who brought joy to those around him. To help with funeral and memorial arrangements, a GoFundMe has been set up.

The fundraiser reads:

"This fundraiser is to honor Andrew Keys, who tragically died this week. He meant so much to so many people. The funds will be used to help with arrangements in his memory. Any amount helps, and all support is deeply appreciated."

Neighbors, classmates, and members of the local community have shared messages of sympathy and support online.

Many have expressed that Andrew’s kind personality and friendly nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

As the community comes together to support the Keys family, people are also calling for extra caution on local roads, especially for skateboarders and pedestrians during early morning hours.

Andrew’s family and friends are continuing to share memories and celebrate the moments they had with him, while also asking for any help people can provide during this difficult time.
