Japan’s own Rizu Akama has officially taken over the Street League Skateboarding Las Vegas stop with an incredible performance that had everyone stoked on.
Competing among the world’s best female skaters, Akama showed complete confidence and style as she laid down one of the cleanest and most technical runs of the event.
One of her biggest moments came when she locked in a perfect 180 frontside nosegrind down the hubba like it was nothing.
But what really set her apart was the frontside 180 to switch smith grind, also known as the Bennett Grind, a trick that only a few skaters in the world can pull off smoothly in a contest.
The crowd erupted when she landed it, and it was clear from that moment that she was skating on another level.
Akama’s win continues Japan’s incredible momentum in the world of skateboarding.
Her win lines up with her boy Ginwoo Onodera who also grabbed first place at the same event. Japan is really running things right now. Their skaters got style, control, and they land tricks like it’s nothing.
They’re not just showing up to compete, they showing up to take over. Every time one of them steps on that board it’s like they saying we here and we ain’t slowing down. The way they mix clean tricks with that street flavor is crazy and it’s clear they got the scene on lock right now.
Massive congratulations to Akama for taking the top spot, and to Onodera for keeping the Japanese skate scene strong on both sides of the contest. The future of skateboarding is definitely looking bright for Japan.
