The skateboarding world lost one of its most respected names when OG professional skateboarder Gabriel Rodriguez passed away on August 9, 2019.

For many skaters, friends, and fans, the news hit deeply because Gabriel was more than just an incredible skateboarder. He was someone people genuinely loved being around. His personality, kindness, and influence reached far beyond skating itself.

Gabriel built a name for himself through years of dedication and raw talent.

People admired the way he skated because it looked natural and creative at the same time. He had a style that many younger skaters looked up to, and his impact on street skating stayed strong throughout the years.

He inspired countless people who watched his videos, met him at skate spots, or simply followed his career from afar.

One of the most emotional tributes came from fellow skater Rudy Johnson, who shared how much Gabriel meant to him personally.

Rudy spoke about growing up only blocks away from Gabriel and experiencing skate life together from a young age.

Their friendship became something much deeper than skating. They shared memories, conversations, and life experiences that stayed meaningful through the years.

Rudy described Gabriel as someone who inspired not only him but people all over the world.

He talked about making sure Gabriel understood how much influence he had during his final days.

According to Rudy, Gabriel was at peace and understood the effect he had on skateboarding and the people around him.

"“On August 9th, 2019 we lost a true legend. He not only inspired me when I first met him, he inspired the world with his amazing talent. Words can’t describe the loss—he was a true brother. The fact that we came from the same neighborhood, living only blocks away as kids and got to experience the skate life together was a true miracle and always a great source of conversation between us. In his last days we assured him of his impact and influence. He was at peace with that and his soon-to-be passing. He now rests in peace. See you on the other side, my man. I love you, Gabe. I will miss you dearly and never forget you, brother.” –Rudy Johnson"

That message touched many fans because it showed how loved and appreciated Gabriel truly was.

Skaters everywhere reacted with sadness after hearing the news. Social media quickly filled with photos, old clips, personal stories, and heartfelt messages from friends and supporters.

Many remembered his unique approach to skating, while others focused on the kind of person he was off the board.

People described him as genuine, humble, funny, and someone who always treated others with respect.

Gabriel’s contribution to skateboarding continues to live on through the footage he left behind and the people he inspired over the years.

Younger generations still watch his clips and study the creativity he brought to street skating. Even years later, his name continues to carry weight within the skate community.

Losing someone like Gabriel Rodriguez reminds people how close the skateboarding world can be.

For many skaters, it feels more like losing family than simply losing a professional athlete. The memories, friendships, and shared experiences become part of everyday life, which is why his passing affected so many people deeply.

Rest in peace, Gabriel. Your influence on skateboarding and the lives around you will always be remembered.
