Professional skateboarder Omar Salazar is stepping onto the NYC stage for a special guest benefit reading of The Indian Wants the Bronx by Israel Horovitz on September 27, 2026.
Salazar will play Murph alongside Jay Charan as the Indian and Conner Piers as Joey. The reading is hosted by The Actors Studio and will be followed by a conversation with Al Pacino and Ben Mankiewicz.
The play follows an East Indian man who gets lost in New York and encounters two teenagers at a bus stop. What begins as casual fun gradually takes a darker turn.
The original play premiered in 1966 and later opened at the Astor Place Theatre in 1968, where Pacino played Murph and won an Obie Award for the role.

Sep 27, 2026. Play Synopsis: An East Indian gets lost on his first day in New York as two teenage punks find him waiting at a lonely bus stop. He cannot understand English, and the boys have some fun with him - at least it starts out as fun. But little by little, as the minutes go by and the bus doesn’t come, they get bored; then annoyed, then vicious.The play premiered in 1966 at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut. In 1968 it then transferred to The Astor Place Theatre in New York City. The play was the start of an amazing career for Al Pacino. He went on to win an Obie Award for his work in the role of Murph.
