It was just a regular afternoon at Memorial Skate Park, until someone started shooting and cops showed up fast.
According to reports, Around 2:55 p.m. on Thursday, San Diego police were called to 702 S. 30th Street after reports of gunshots at the skate park. People nearby said they heard a loud bang before things got chaotic. By the time officers got there, the person who was hit was already gone.
Not long after, a man showed up at Sharp Urgent Care on Fir Street with a gunshot wound to his arm. It’s still unknown who dropped him off or what happened in the moments after the shooting. Staff at the clinic called the police as soon as he arrived.
Police are treating the case as an assault with a deadly weapon. Right now, investigators are still trying to figure out what led to the shooting. It’s unclear if the victim was being targeted or just caught in the middle of something.
No arrests have been made so far, and police haven’t shared any details about a possible suspect. Officers were at the park for hours, talking to anyone who might’ve seen what went down.
Locals say Memorial Skate Park is usually a laid-back spot, especially in the summer when skaters hang out all day. Stuff like this doesn’t happen often, so people in the area are pretty shaken up.
If you saw anything or know something about what happened, San Diego Police are asking you to reach out or contact Crime Stoppers.
