Lou Peralta, the founder of Skatercross Skatepark, has passed away.
Todd Huber of the Skateboarding Hall of Fame shared the sad news, remembering Peralta as a great man and someone they were fortunate to have known over the years.
Peralta’s name became closely associated with Skatercross, a private skatepark that became part of the skateboarding scene.
His work also earned him the respect of other park owners who had spent years building and maintaining their own facilities.
Huber recalled hosting a Skatercross reunion at the museum several years ago.
It was an opportunity for people connected to the park to get together and spend some time with one another.
One of the more personal parts of the tribute came from a private skatepark owner who had been running his own facility for 29 years.
He wrote that Peralta was someone he looked up to and considered a mentor.
The two had spent time together on several occasions, talking shop and trading stories about their experiences running skateparks. Those conversations left a lasting impression.
Another special memory came in 2024, when Peralta’s family brought him to the museum on Father’s Day.
The visit gave Huber another chance to spend time with him, something he now remembers with even greater appreciation.

"It’s with great sadness we share that Skatercross Skatepark Founder Lou Peralta passed away yesterday. Lou was a great Man and we feel fortunate to have known him. Several years ago we hosted a Skatercross reunion in the Museum and it was great day. Personally as a Private Skatepark Owner myself for the past 29 years Lou was a Man I strongly looked up to and considered a Mentor. Several times I had the opportunity to hang with him and trade stories and talk shop. I appreciated when his Family brought him to visit the Museum on Father’s Day in 2024 and I’m truly sad he is gone. RIP LOU #skateboardinghalloffame"
