Skateboarding just got a tech upgrade.
Legendary pro skateboarder Stevie Williams, also known as Lord Williams, launched the first-ever NFC-enabled pro skateboard through his own brand, DGK.
The NFC Blanks tag is embedded inside the plywood of the deck, creating a seamless connection with your phone.
This limited edition deck is available exclusively on the DGK website.
We at ShreddER were curious about what inspired this fusion of skate culture and NFC technology.
We asked Lord Williams what led him to merge skating with smart tech and how he sees it changing the way skaters interact with their boards and the wider skate community.
Lord Williams explained that the NFC tags are more than just a gimmick, they’re a marketing tool for skaters and skate brands.
“You can download the NFC Blanks app and program or reprogram the tags that come on the products,” he said. “When you get the DGK board, you can set it up to link your social feeds or any other link-based platform.”
This new Digital Ghetto Kids type of work is an NBD, just another way to give skaters something fresh and interactive.
It allows skaters to customize their skateboards in a way that goes beyond graphics or hardware, while also offering brands a new way to connect with their audience.
Skateboarders can now share content, links, and updates right through their boards.
The DGK NFC Blanks deck is limited edition, and with its combination of tech and skate culture, it’s likely to attract attention from collectors and street skaters.
It’s a new way to connect with your skateboard, your community, and the world of skateboarding in a more digital, interactive way.
