The battle for the world’s longest grind just got a lot more interesting.
As we previously reported, Blood Wizard Skateboards pro skater Kyle Walsh recently took down Maxim Habanec and Kanaan Dern’s record with his own 300 foot grind, putting his name at the top of the longest grind rankings.

But not everyone in the Dern Brothers camp was ready to let that record go without some discussion.
Jonathan Pritchette, a supporter of the Dern brothers, brought up the history behind these massive rail grinds, pointing out that the idea had been around before Kyle’s latest attempt.
Destin Dern responded by explaining that the record had already existed more than 10 years ago and that they were not the ones who started the idea.
That led our longtime follower Evan Breder to bring up a different part of the story. According to Evan, Kyle had previously talked about connecting two rails belonging to friends of the Dern brothers.
Putting those two rails together would have created a record at the time.
Evan said the Dern brothers then went ahead and built a rail that was longer than what Kyle could have created by connecting those two rails, without telling him.
That caught Destin’s attention.

Destin asked where Evan had gotten that information and explained that he and his brother had an idea to eventually film a video with Kyle.
With Kanaan and Kyle now going back and forth over the record, Destin said he was open to making something happen between them.
Kyle then explained where his original idea came from.
After skating Brandon Burleigh’s 127 foot rail, Kyle said he had talked with Kanaan and Brandon about connecting it with Jamie Owens’ 100 foot Transworld rail.
Together, the two rails would have created a 227 foot grind and broken the previous world record.
Kyle also admitted that the situation turning into a back and forth battle made him want to settle things on camera.
His response was simple.
He was down to make a video together with the Dern brothers to settle this once and for all.
Destin then gave more context from the Dern brothers’ side.

He said he was not aware of the conversation Kyle had with Brandon and Kanaan and did not believe the first rail was being built behind Kyle’s back.
According to Destin, the first rail was being posted online before it was even built. The goal was to break Jagger Eaton’s record and make a good video around it.
The second rail was different.
Destin explained that the second rail was kept secret because they needed a strong ending for the video they were putting together.
That secrecy eventually became part of what made the whole situation so entertaining for everyone watching.

Now, instead of arguing about who had the original idea, it looks like Kyle and the Derns may actually settle it by filming together.
Kyle has already taken Kanaan’s record, and the Derns have noted that they are interested in another attempt to take back the throne.
With both sides now talking about making a video, the next battle could decide who holds the record for the longest grind.
And this time, everyone will know who will be king once they drop the video.
