Pro skateboarder Kerry Getz is marking a major moment for Nocturnal Skateshop as it reaches its twenty fifth year.
For anyone who has followed Kerry, this comes as no surprise. He has always been out in the streets with friends, filming clips, checking out new spots, and keeping the local scene alive. Even while building his own career, he never drifted far from the shop that helped shape so much of his life.
Nocturnal Skateshop has been a fixture in Philadelphia’s skating culture since it first opened in 2000 on South Third Street. Kerry and his friend Tim built it from scratch, and over time it became much more than a place to buy gear.
It grew into a home for local skaters, visiting pros, and anyone who simply loved being on a board. People would come by just to hang out, check new setups, or talk about fresh spots around the city.
Anyone familiar with the City of Brotherly Love knows how important places like Nocturnal are. They bring people together and help keep the community moving forward. Shops like this become part of daily life for so many skaters.
To celebrate the twenty fifth year, Kerry and the team released the “25 Years of Night” collection with artwork by Don Pendleton. It is a meaningful way to honor everything the shop has given to the scene. Kerry shared a message looking back on the early days, saying he and Tim opened the shop without knowing what the future would hold, and that it feels good to still be here after all this time.
Reaching twenty five years shows how much the community values Nocturnal and how much effort Kerry has put into keeping it strong.
Philadelphia would not be the same without Nocturnal, and this celebration highlights how much one shop can mean to an entire city.
Here is to many more years for Kerry and Nocturnal Skateshop, and to everyone who has ever walked through the door, bought a deck, or chilled on the couch talking about the next spot to skate.
