Sci-Fi Fantasy Skateboards head honcho Jerry Hsu is getting ready to release his new book, "How About Never."
This offers core heads another look into the creative mind of one of skateboarding’s most influential figures.
Failure has always been part of skateboarding. You miss a trick, take a slam, get back up, and try again.
Outside of skating, rejection can come in many forms, from losing sponsorship opportunities to wondering if your work will ever get the recognition you hoped for.
That feeling of being close to failure is also at the heart of Hsu’s new book.
The title may sound negative, but Hsu says hope is a huge part of the book. He describes himself as being “obsessed with hope,” giving the phrase a deeper meaning.
“Some of the book may seem bleak but I’m actually obsessed with hope. Maybe ‘How About Never’ is not being said to me, I’m saying it.”
That final thought changes the way the title can be understood.
Hsu is not simply describing rejection from someone else. He is turning the phrase into his own statement, something that fits his approach to photography, art, and skateboarding.
Throughout his career, Hsu has built a reputation for his unique approach to skating and photography.
