Skater, rapper, and activist Jaden Smith is taking his efforts to help others to the next level with a new restaurant aimed at feeding the homeless.
The restaurant, called “I Love You,” expands on the concept of his “I Love You” food truck, which he launched almost two years ago on his 21st birthday.
With this new location in Los Angeles’ Skid Row, Smith is hoping to provide free vegan meals to people experiencing homelessness.
“It’s for homeless people to get free food,” Smith told Variety. While anyone is welcome at the restaurant, there is a unique approach for paying customers. “If you’re not homeless, not only do you have to pay, but you have to pay for more than the food’s worth so that you can pay for the person behind you,” he explained. This system is designed to allow people with more resources to help those in need, creating a community where everyone can contribute in their own way.
This project follows several other initiatives that show Smith’s dedication to making a difference.
At just 22, he owns JUST Water and has been actively involved in the Water Box project through 501CTHREE.org, which brings clean water to communities that struggle to access it. Two years ago, JUST Water installed a water filtration system in Flint, Michigan, a city that has dealt with unsafe drinking water for nearly ten years.
With “I Love You,” Smith is bringing his focus on sustainability, compassion, and community together in a space where people can not only enjoy healthy meals but also support others through a simple act of sharing a meal.
The restaurant reflects his commitment to creating solutions that have real, tangible effects on people’s lives, while encouraging everyone to think about how they can contribute.
