Skaters are feeling the loss as First Gear Skateshop announces it will be closing for good.

RELATED: 10 Reasons to Shop at Your Local Skateshop

The shop has been more than a place to buy boards and gear. It has been a gathering spot for the community where skaters could meet, hang out, and share their love for skateboarding.

First Gear was a small, family-run business built from passion and dedication.

Friendly Reminder: Let Us Always Support Our Local Skate Shop

The owners invested time, energy, and their own resources to keep it going, but rising costs and other challenges made it impossible to continue.

Over the years, the shop has seen countless skaters start on a new board, join their first sessions, and celebrate every victory, big or small.

The memories created there will remain part of the community long after the doors close.

The shop will stay open through January to clear out remaining stock, giving people a chance to pick up gear and say goodbye.

A farewell video and final party are also planned to celebrate everything First Gear brought to the area.

While the shop may be closing, the spirit it fostered is expected to continue.

Core heads are encouraged to support other local spots, keep sessions alive, and remember the friendships and experiences built at First Gear.

Its influence on the community will not be forgotten.

First Gear Posted:

"It is with a heavy heart and a lot of reflection that we are announcing the permanent closure of First Gear Skateshop.

This has been one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make. We started this shop out of a pure love for skateboarding and a desire to give our locals a place to call home. Seeing that dream come to life has been the honor of a lifetime.

Why We’re Closing

As many of you know, we are a small, family-run business. We’ve poured our hearts, our time, and our own resources into keeping these doors open because we believe in this community.

The past few years have been incredibly difficult. Between shifts in the industry, economic pressures, and the rising costs of keeping a brick-and-mortar shop alive, we’ve reached a point where we can no longer move forward. We are deeply disappointed that we couldn’t find a way through, as we wanted to be here for many more years to come.

While this is a sad ending, we don’t want it to overshadow the incredible memories we’ve made:
• To our regulars: Thank you for making the shop your second home.
• To the kids picking up their first boards: Thank you for letting us be part of your journey.
• To the community: Thank you for every purchase, every high-five, every session, every jam and every party!
You didn’t just support a business, you supported a dream. We are forever grateful for the friendships and the culture we built together.

We will be open through January to clear out our remaining inventory. Please stop by, grab some gear, and say goodbye. We’d love to see you one last time.
We’re planning a video premiere and final goodbye party at the shop. I’ll post details when they’re finalized.

Keep pushing, keep supporting local, and thank you for everything.
— First Gear… pushing the truth since day one"
