If you’ve been to an Ollie’s lately and saw skateboards going for five bucks, you probably did a double take.
Nobody expected to see legit decks sitting next to discount toys and home goods. But there’s a reason behind it, and it goes deeper than a simple clearance sale.
Skateboarding legend Clyde Singleton hopped online and broke it down for everyone. “How does Ollies Outlet sell skateboards for $5? Look no further, I’ll break it down for you all, in the simplest form possible,” he said.
According to Clyde, Dwindle Distribution, the same crew that ran World Industries back in the day just dumped everything.
The company sold off around 20 million dollars worth of gear.
That’s about 10 million in complete skateboards, 5 million in accessories, and the rest in decks. Basically, they cashed out and moved on.
We already reported that Dwindle Distribution took its website offline to make changes while its brands Enjoi, Almost, Blind, Tensor and others were getting shut down.
Nobody knew where all that leftover product would end up. Now we know.
It’s sitting in Ollie’s “Good Stuff Cheap” stores waiting for whoever shows up with five bucks in their pocket.
People online have been going crazy about it.
You got skaters and collectors posting videos and showing off their hauls. Some can’t believe it’s real. Boards that used to go for over a hundred dollars are now stacked in bins next to discount socks.
Clyde even joked, “You can’t even get a burger for $5. Matter of fact, for the first time ever, griptape costs more than a skateboard.”
It’s wild but kind of fitting for how fast the skate game changes.
One minute you’re on top with brands in every shop, the next your decks are sitting on clearance shelves.
Still, for anyone who’s been broke but wanted to start skating, this might be the best time ever. You can grab a full setup for the price of lunch.
For the older skate heads, it hits different.
Dwindle was part of the scene that raised a whole generation of skaters. Seeing those same logos sitting in discount stores feels weird, but it’s also real life.
Business moves fast, and sometimes even the biggest names have to let go.
At the end of the day, Ollie’s came up, skaters got a steal, and the story of Dwindle just added another wild chapter. Five dollar boards. Let that sink in.
