Things got real on Tuesday afternoon at Rusch Community Park when a dead body was found near the skate park while people were still skating and hanging out in broad daylight.
Just before 2:30 p.m. skaters at the park noticed a man laid out on the ground near the skate spot along Antelope Road in Citrus Heights.
He was not moving and something was wrong. Next thing you know fire trucks and an ambulance came flying in and the whole area locked up.
People who were there said bystanders tried to help before crews arrived. CPR was already going when Sacramento Metro Fire showed up within minutes.
The man was around 40 years old and had gone unresponsive near the skate park for reasons nobody could explain at the time.
Emergency crews worked on him hard for about 20 minutes right there in front of everyone. Skaters stood back watching. Some pulled out phones. Some bounced immediately. In the end he was pronounced dead at the scene.
At first nobody knew what happened and rumors started floating.
Later that evening Citrus Heights Police came through at the request of the Sacramento County Coroner.
Police checked the body and said there were no signs of injuries and no indication of an attack. They confirmed there was no foul play involved.
The cause of death is still unknown. The man’s name has not been released and will stay that way until his family is notified.
