The only skateboard magazine that has been thriving since 1981 is Thrasher Magazine, founded in January by core skateboarders Eric Swenson and Fausto Vitello.

Even after the founders died with editor-in-chief Jake Phelps who also passed away in 2019, the publication stands still as the only skate bible in the world.

Other skate mags have been out of business, bought out by different companies, or at the same level as what they have been since they started.

This time, there's a new skater-owned independent skateboarding magazine brand in town founded by Jaime Owens, formerly of Skateboarder Magazine and Transworld SKATEboarding.

Owens said. "I'm very proud of the work I did for Skateboarder Magazine and TransWorld SKATEboarding over the past two decades and will use that knowledge and experience to continue to pour my heart and soul into every aspect of this new venture. And I won't ever stop pushing to make it the best. Always skating. Now and forever."

According to Owens, the magazine will fill the most respected and legendary contributors he's befriended through the years to be an all-inclusive skateboard magazine that celebrates the true spirit of skateboarding.

Closer will give the marginalized outcast skaters and underrepresented a voice alongside some of the biggest names in skateboarding. Each issue will include travel features and profiles from skateboarding's elite brands and skaters, including legends of yesteryear and some of the most prolific future stars of tomorrow.
